Job Summary

Provide career development programs and services for students in the Gies College of Business through classroom programming and one-on-one advising services. Support Gies students with developing career-readiness and professional development skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

Student Programming Services

  • Design, develop and implement career programming in the classroom and through workshops, conferences, and programs
  • Work collaboratively with student affairs professionals and faculty to develop, promote, manage, and programs to support students’ career and professional development 
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, student affairs professionals and staff to enhance cohesiveness of career development delivery to students
  • Manage, promote and administer student programs utilizing online education platforms
  • Train students on use of career platforms, including Handshake and Gies Groups via individual and group sessions as well as classroom settings
  • Stay up-to-date on current industry trends as well as hiring and job search best practices for business industry roles
  • Develop, update, maintain and distribute to students print and electronic information on industry and career paths
  • Partner with corporate engagement to identify potential career opportunities and to enhance student interactions with employers
  • Participate in admissions and recruitment events

Student Advising

• Advise students on career planning in one-on-one and group settings
• Conduct resume critiques, practice interviews and general career development advising
• Communicate career-related information to students, including open full-time and internship positions and opportunities for leadership, employer engagement, and career exploration
• Coach students to connect with alumni and other professionals currently employed in their target industry
• Support students in developing career goals for both US and home country job search
• Support international students through knowledge of the H1B Visa process, international employer recruiting activities, and international career management
• Maintain contact with alumni to share career information with current students
• Support the collection of student internship and Illini Success data
• Perform other duties as assigned
