The Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences are searching for a Coordinator to provide support to the Career and Alumni Services to enhance our undergraduate and graduate students' futures, strengthen the connection between our unit and alumni, and provide corporation-student engagement opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Career Services & Advising
- Advise economics students on career development, job search strategies, and graduate school preparation both domestically and internationally
- Actively support and monitor student progress towards career goal
- Coordinate and provide resume reviews, mock interviews, professional profile development, and skill assessments with students
- Maintain student advising records in the campus advising system
- Create promotional and informational materials for all economics academic programs in areas related to the Career and Alumni Services Center
- Deliver career exploration/preparation and professional development workshops, seminars, and events
- Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, parents/families, and others as appropriate, within the parameters of FERPA and campus policies
- Meet and assist prospective and admitted students and their families throughout the semester, during summer orientation, and support the undergraduate office’s recruitment efforts
- Become a member of the campus Career Services Council and serve on topical committees that benefit Economics students
- Collaborate with the LAS Career Services office
- Other career-related duties as needed
Curricular & Co-Curricular Development and Teaching
- Serve as Instructor for Economics and Your Career (Econ 198) and Professional Economics Internship (Econ 298) each fall, spring, and summer semesters
- Serve as a resource for Economics academic programs to aid in maintaining relevant curriculum and courses
- Provide curricular support to economics instructors by connecting them with companies and discussing research on current career trends and relevant skills important for economics students in the competitive job market
- Collaborate with economics academic programs to identify, create, and integrate relevant professional development co-curricular programs
- Other curricular-related duties as needed
Employer/Corporate Outreach
- In collaboration with LAS Corporate Relations and the campus Office of Corporate Relations, develop relationships with companies, non-profit organizations, and alumni to develop internship/experiential education opportunities, professional connections for students, and career opportunities for students
- Collaborate with LAS Corporate Relations and the campus Office of Corporate Relations to identify and secure companies to partner with the Economics Data Lab
- Other corporate relation-related duties as needed
Alumni Coordination
- Represent the Department of Economics as a point of contact for alumni
- Assist in the development and coordination of alumni-focused regional and national programs year-round
- Increase the number of alumni visiting the department to serve as panelists, speakers, etc. Maintain information regarding potential speakers, panelists, workshop facilitators, etc. Support the development of student programming that includes alumni
- Serve as a resource to faculty interested in engaging alumni in the classroom. Identify alumni interested in supporting student development through experiential opportunities such as research
- Work closely with the Assistant Director for Career and Alumni Affairs to foster alumni and employer relationships and to encourage the development of internship and full-time employment opportunities for students and alumni; respond to alumni hiring needs overall
- Track and maintain current alumni data for all Economics degrees
- Develop content for alumni e-newsletter. Identify, interview, and write profiles on alumni
- In consultation with the LAS Communications and Marketing Team, maintain the Alumni section of the Economics web page. Create social media content spotlighting alumni successes, impact in the community, and career paths; promote job and internship opportunities and Economics events
- Other alumni-related duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
- A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training, and/or work experience in working with students in academic advising, counseling, career development, student affairs, or other programs to assist students. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Bachelor's or master’s preferred degree areas are College Student Development; Higher Education; Human Resources; Counseling; Business; Liberal Arts & Sciences areas, or other related fields
- Two (2) years of full-time professional experience or related graduate-level experience working with college students in academic advising, alumni relations, counseling, career development, student affairs, or other programs to assist students in higher education
- Experience working with diverse populations and ability to articulate the value of diversity and inclusivity; Experience with a variety of social media platforms
- Experience working with student groups and organizations
- Experience in Higher Education

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Hybrid work options may be available for this position after an initial on-site training period, with the ability to be on-site at the Champaign-Urbana campus as needed per the University of Illinois workplace flexibility guidelines- https://cam.illinois.edu/policies/hr-87-2/. Sponsorship for Work Authorization is not available for this position.
