Job Summary

The Career Advisor position is part of a collaborative and innovative team dedicated to empowering undergraduate students in their career journey within the Mitch Daniels School of Business.  The position involves several key roles: 

 

  • Advising: Provide one-on-one and group career advising for students, focusing on careers in business, professional development and career readiness
  • Industry Awareness: Stay informed on industry trends, the employer landscape, and professional associations to effectively guide students. 
  • Job Search Support: Assist students with career exploration, resume, and cover letter reviews, interview preparation, and provide opportunities for them to connect with alumni and potential employers.
  • Classroom Engagement: Deliver professional development content for courses, especially in MGMT 295: Career Readiness and Exploration.  
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, employers and external stakeholders to promote engagement and support student success.
  • Data Insights: Offer ongoing metrics and insights related to employment status and action plans to aid students in their career progression. Participate in outcome data collection.
  • Program Coordination: Develop and coordinate professional development programs and workshops that enhance students' professional skills.

 

The salary for this position will start around $53k-57k per year, plus benefits, based on education and experience.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline, education, training and development, or related field
  • 4 years of professional experience in a business discipline, education, training and development, or related field
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport with students and stakeholders; communicating complex information to both internal and external audiences 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and skilled in establishing effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, employers, and alumni
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects while thinking critically and creatively to create solutions
  • Strong understanding of business professions and industry dynamics
  • Familiarity with databases and software for managing student information, career resources, and program assessments
  • Ability to conduct research on job markets and industry trends to guide program development and provide relevant resources

 

Preferred: 

  • MBA/MS
  • Relevant experience in career coaching/advising or career course instruction
